Journal of Black Opera and Music Theatre

The Journal of Black Opera and Music Theatre is the official journal of the Black Opera Research Network (BORN). It publishes scholarship and creative-critical work on opera and other forms of music theatre that engage with Blackness as a subject, methodology, identity construction, and/or critical lens, approached from multinational perspectives and identities. The journal's outlook is global and transnational, and it is committed to engaging with contested definitions of Blackness. Opera and music theatre are treated as capacious terms, and the journal's scope extends to work that challenges the putative boundaries of genre.
